About aim4art

We are a voluntary community group of artists in the Tees Valley, formed in 2009, with the help of Awards For All Lottery funding. We have also received support from Teesside Community Foundation and in 2015 were awarded a curatorial bursary by MIMA to support our 'Not The Transporter Bridge' exhibition held at Kirkleatham Hall in summer 2016.

Since 2009 we've held a number of successful exhibitions, hosted a whole series of visiting tutors, and organised many visits and social events. In January 2016 our work was featured as part of MIMA's 'Localism' Exhibition. In 2017 we have been invited to exhibit ar RSPB Saltholme and to contribute to the Dorman Museum's 'Tokyo To The Tees Exhibition.'

Background

We started as a group of mature students from Cleveland College of Art and Design who completed a part-time Foundation course in 2008. We were so motivated by this that we were determined to pursue our artistic aspirations and take the next step. However, for various reasons, we had difficulty accessing other courses. As a result, we set out to develop a group that would enable us and other like-minded people to carry on painting together, and to access workshops and resources.

What can we offer?

We are based at The Barn, managed by Hemlington Recreation Centre, Hemlington, Middlesbrough. We hold weekly painting sessions on Tuesdays from 10am to 4pm. The Barn overlooks Hemlington Lake and has two spacious rooms offering a pleasant working environment, together with storage space, toilet and kitchen facilities. Following the transfer of The Barn To Tees Valley Asset Preservation Trust, the accommodation is to be upgraded, albeit with only a single room available. The plans inlude the opening of a cafe in the adjacent building.

In addition to our regular Tuesday meeting, there is a programme of talks, demonstrations, and workshop sessions with professional artists, visits to galleries and artistic events, and exhibitions of our own work.

Aim4art members may also use the library at Cleveland College of Art and Design as external borrowers.

Full Membership

Membership is open to anyone over 18 and currently costs thirty pounds a year for all members. The fee will give unrestricted access to our programme of talks, demonstrations and visits. Places will be allocated to new members wishing to attend Tuesday sessions on a regular basis, subject to a maximum of 25. If that number is exceeded, we will offer to put people on a waiting list. Members attending on Tuesdays are asked for a contribution of four pounds per session

If you are interested in joining aim4art, email us at the address below or visit one of our Tuesday sessions at The Barn (See Venue).

Social Membership

We're also inviting people to become social members, who could join us for workshops and visits. There is no membership fee, just a charge for events attended.
