About aim4art

We are a voluntary community group of artists in the Tees Valley, formed in 2009, with the help of Awards For All Lottery funding. We have also received support from Teesside Community Foundation and in 2015 were awarded a curatorial bursary by MIMA to support our 'Not The Transporter Bridge' exhibition held at Kirkleatham Museum in summer 2016.

Since 2009 we've had many successful exhibitions, hosted a whole series of visiting tutors, and organised many visits and social events. In January 2016 our work was featured as part of MIMA's 'Localism' Exhibition. In 2017 we were invited to exhibit ar RSPB Saltholme and to contribute to the Dorman Museum's 'Tokyo To The Tees Exhibition.' More recently, we have continued to exhibit our work at The Heritage Gallery (Cargo Fleet), the Python Gallery (Middlesbrough) and Kirkleatham Museum (see our Gallery)

Background

We started as a group of mature students from Cleveland College of Art and Design who completed a part-time Foundation course in 2008. We were so motivated by this that we were determined to pursue our artistic aspirations and take the next step. However, for various reasons, we had difficulty accessing other courses. As a result, we set out to develop a group that would enable us and other like-minded people to carry on painting together, and to access workshops and resources.

What can we offer?

We are based at The Barn, Hemlington, managed by Tees Valley Community Asset Preservation Trust. We hold weekly painting sessions on Tuesdays from 10am to 3.30pm. The Barn overlooks Hemlington Lake and has a spacious room offering a pleasant working environment, together with storage cupboard, toilet and washing facilities.

At intervals we also organise talks, demonstrations, and workshop sessions with professional artists, visits to galleries and artistic events, and exhibitions of our own work.

Most of all, we offer a friendly and supportive community, both artistically and socially.

Full Membership

Membership is open to anyone over 18 and currently costs thirty five pounds a year for all members. The fee will include access to our programme of workshops and visits. Places will be allocated to new members wishing to attend Tuesday sessions on a regular basis, subject to a maximum of 16. If that number is exceeded, we will offer to put people on a waiting list. Members attending on Tuesdays are asked to contribute £6 per full session, or £4 for a half session.

If you are interested in joining aim4art, email us at the address below or visit one of our Tuesday sessions at The Barn (See Venue).
